An Antique small Star Sapphire Brooch

An oval brooch in gold and silver set with a cabochon beautiful Star Sapphire of approx. 17 carat.  Surround by 24 rose cut diamonds. France c. 1895

Marked with the eagle head, a French content mark for 18 kt,  the swan, import mark for countries where no trade agreement was valid.
The swan mark, introduced in 1893 and used until 1970, seved as an import identification mark on silver watchcases, boxes, and jewelry. The swan mark indicates that the item is at least a minimum standard of 800 and was produced in a non-treaty country.
