We now have another stunning piece in our shop that has lived 150 years. A gold and silver French brooch or pendant, choc full of old European and rose cut diamonds, from the Second Empire (1852 â€' 1870). The period that gave birth to so much of what epitomizes French style today. France’s last Emperor Napoleon III renovated Paris into a modern city, Laduree and Louis Vuitton were founded, it was a time of parties and balls, luxurious mansions and made-to-measure gowns. The beautiful and elegant Spanish Eugenie became the Empress of Fashion. Her idol was Marie-Antoinette, the last Queen before the revolution, and Eugenie herself turned into a real European influencer in fashion, art and jewellery â€' designed to match the garments especially made for her. Magnificent gem-set jewellery became the ultimate status symbol. This one is signed GM (G Marmuse) and comes in its original box with the initials of the owner: BB
