Vintage Corsage Brooch
Cartier
18k gold corsage pin set with 54 brilliant cut diamonds, signed CARTIER, patent pending. ca. 1934.
Designed as a rectangular shaped centrepiece flanked by two geometrically shaped pieces set with diamonds. A special patented mechanism is used in the brooch, to allow it to hold a small bouquet of flowers or a selection of feathers. By pressing the two geometrical part together the flexible middle piece is forced upwards whereby a small opening is created to put a flower of other corsage material in. The mechanism is patented.
Size: 8.3 x 2.2 cm Weight: 22.8 gram
Paul Flato, an American jeweller whose jewellery was worn by stage and screen stars, shown an advertisement in Harpers Bazaar, May 1934 showing a model wearing a corsage pin very similar in design to our Cartier pin.
