Beschrijving

Antieke 18-karaats gouden en platina broche in de vorm van een vlinder, de voorkant vol bezet met roosgeslepen diamanten . Op de vleugels een gele oudslijpsel diamant en een vierkante gefacetteerde smaragd. Het oog is een ronde, cabochongeslepen robijn. Gesigneerd: Théodule Bourdier.

 

Théodule Bourdier werd in 1837 in Parijs geboren, waar hij een goudsmidsopleiding volgde en in de leer ging bij een juwelier. Tegen 1870 was zijn naam zo gevestigd dat hij exposeerde op de Parijse Exposities naast bekende namen als Boucheron, Mellerio, Fontenay en Vever. De overgebleven juwelen uit deze periode vertonen klassieke ontwerpen, verfijnd vervaardigd en zeer aansluitend bij de modieuze stijlen van de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw. Diamanten armbanden, bloembroches, chatelaines en stukken met een duidelijk Renaissance-revival-thema. Théodule Bourdier is nu geen bekende naam meer, maar eind negentiende eeuw was het een gevierde naam in de wereld van de Parijse hoogwaardige juwelen.
