Ivan Ado

Russian Art Nouveau pendant / brooch

Pendants

Description

An Art Nouveau pendant / brooch, hallmarked 56 zolotnik, the old Russian gold standard (14 carat), and with what we interpret as the initials 'И А' of Ivan Ado (1899-1908), chief assayer in Kazan. Made of gold and silver and set with two natural rubies with no visible signs of treatment (approx. 4 ct), twelve diamonds (approx. 0.36 ct) and 79 green demantoite garnets from the Urals (approx. 4.2 ct). In original case: Petrograd, N. Linden (Nikolai Linden, jeweler in Petersburg).

Russia, circa 1900

The Nikolai Linden jewelry company has a very interesting history and even collaborated with Fabergé. In 1892, Nikolai Linden established a workshop on Nevsky Prospect, St. Petersburg's main street, where he repaired jewelry and watches. Over time, the workshop also became a jewelry and watch shop, eventually becoming one of the most successful of its kind in St. Petersburg. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Linden was appointed as a supplier to various royal courts, including the Shah of Iran, the Russian Imperial House, and the kings of Montenegro, Bulgaria, and Romania.

I visited the shop in June 2022. I ended up buying a lovely 1970s emerald ring. She was able to resize it that same day! If I visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely stop by this store.

We love this shop. The owner couple is very charming, we bought a few things and I can tell you the prices are very good. They have many beautiful and unique pieces of jewellery and watches. We had a very pleasant shopping experience here. I recommend that you must browse the shop when you visit Amsterdam.

Perfect view of a beautiful piece of antique and always willing to provide an explanation. Never any pressure to buy; customer friendliness and knowledge at their best! By the way, I'm not related.
