Description
An 18-karat white gold ring set with three oval sapphires (appr. 1.5 ct) and two brilliant-cut diamonds (totaling 1 ct) set in yellow gold prongs and surrounded by 26 eight-cut diamonds (totaling 1 ct). The ring is a prototype number one of Ms. Hogervorst's own design, crafted by Burnier jeweler in The Hague. Ring size 16 mm / US 5, with a removable spring (so it can be larger).
Netherlands, circa 1970s
Burnier, a jeweler since the early 19th century, was located on Westeinde and operated a so-called closed business. Anyone who rang the doorbell was greeted by Mr. Burnier at the end of a long marble hallway, entering a spacious salon where only a single piece of silver was displayed in a glass case. After the customer had expressed their request, an assistant—usually of noble descent—would bring the requested jewelry. Burnier's clientele was primarily Dutch nobility, but he also supplied the Dutch court.
