Description

An antique 18-carat gold ring with a hinged compartment and an inscription on the inside of the band. The ring is decorated with diamonds and blue enamel borders, hallmarked with the maker's mark HHE, the city mark for London and the year letter N for the year 1868-1869. The inscription:

In memory of my beloved and lamented mother Amelia Roubilia Bouvijer, who died August 20, 1868, aged 85, in whom there was no guile (meaning: who was free from deceit, cunning, hypocrisy, or dishonesty in thought or deed).
