Description
Gold pendant on a necklace with an enamel painting of Madonna with child on her arm, crown and sceptre. Enameled in medieval style, in a beautifully crafted gold frame and gold necklace with small seed pearls. The back with maker's mark JB for Joanna Brom (1898-1980) and year 48 (1948).

A handwritten letter has been preserved from Joanna Brom confirming the purchase of this pendant, dated September 23, 1950. Joanna Wilhelmina Francisca Paula Brom (Utrecht, November 8, 1898 - May 29, 1980) was educated in Salzburg, Vienna, Berlin and Leipzig. She worked in the family business as a goldsmith and enameler until 1958, she embellished the ecclesiastical objects made in the goldsmith's shop; Monstrances, chalices, vases and bowls were decorated by her with enamel. She also made jewelry and portrait miniatures in enamel. She was a member of the Society of Art Love.
