Description
Silver rattle on a beautiful, original long cable chain (142 cm), the handle with a chased decoration of rocaille motifs, Amsterdam maker's mark unclear. The initials CIS are on the bottom of the handle.
Although the rattle was probably first and foremost used as a small toy to distract and calm babies during childhood illnesses, people soon began to believe that it also had magical and protective powers. From that time on, the rattle was considered an object that protected young children from illness and misfortune, and was seen as a guarantee of a long and happy life.
